Pancake Day & the Arrival of Spring at Brightham House

Pancake Day & the Arrival of Spring at Brightham House

As winter starts to fade and the first signs of spring emerge, one celebration always brings a little extra joy to this time of year—Pancake Day! Also known as Shrove Tuesday, this delicious tradition is loved by many, and here at Brightham House, we take our pancakes seriously. Whether you prefer them sweet, savoury, or somewhere in between, there’s no denying that Pancake Day is a perfect excuse to indulge.

The Tradition of Pancake Day

Pancake Day falls on the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday and marks the beginning of Lent, a time of fasting in the Christian calendar. Historically, people would use up rich ingredients like eggs, milk, and butter before the 40-day fast, leading to the tradition of making pancakes. Today, while not everyone follows the fasting tradition, Pancake Day remains a much-loved excuse to whip up a batch of fluffy, golden pancakes and get creative with toppings.

Spring is in the Air at Brightham House

While we love a cosy winter, there’s something special about the transition into spring. The days are getting longer, the flowers are beginning to bloom, and there’s a renewed energy in the air. Here in Devon, the landscape starts to come alive with vibrant colours, making it the perfect time for a getaway. If you’re dreaming of fresh coastal walks, charming countryside scenery, and a warm welcome, Brightham House is the place to be.
