After many years of hard campaigning by many LGBT groups to beat discrimination, life has become easier for gay men and women. These days, you shouldn’t feel that you need to book gay accommodation to feel accepted.
At Brightham House, we are fortunate to have welcomed many guests from all walks of life. We have travellers from the gay UK capital, Brighton that often book with us. They appreciate the relaxed atmosphere we have created. There’s no judging here!
However, if you do prefer to book a gay friendly hotel, then this is the place to stay too. We ourselves are a gay couple and are proud to be part of the LGBT community.
The House
You should be comfortable in our bed & breakfast in South Devon. It has 8 unique guest bedrooms. You’ll see that each room is individually designed and decorated with passion and flair. We first opened in 2018, after major renovations. In our second season, we were fortunate to win an AA award. Where we one Unique B&B of the year. That was one of the proudest days of our lives.
Guest Bar
Staying at Brightham House is a whole new experience, that different to most things you’ll find in Devon. Our guest bar is often mentioned in the many TripAdvisor reviews we’ve been fortunate to have received. It’s a small bar with comfy retro egg chairs to relax into after a long day walking. Stocked full of local Salcombe Gin, Salcombe Brewery beers, and everything else spirit-wise you’d expect to find in a swanky luxury London boutique hotel.
The Orangery
When you arrive after your journey, you’ll be greeted by hosts Scott & Alistair, and our two dogs, Lola & Poppy. Guests are offered a drink, plus a homemade Devon cream tea with cream and jam on top. Often served in The Orangery.
The Orangery is a haven for plant lovers like me. There’s many different varieties of indoor plants that are thriving from the sunlight and warm environment. In the summer, we throw the bi-fold doors wide open. We love the connection of the indoors to the outdoors. The garden is full of different plants from around the world. The countries we have visited have determined many of the plant choices. There are many Olive trees and Cypress trees growing and creating shade in the garden. It’s our little touch of Italy. One of our favourite places in the world.
We serve breakfast in The Orangery every day. The chef Scott has created something for everybody’s taste buds. Also often inspired by our travels abroad.
A top favourite breakfast choice is poached eggs with smashed avocado and a drizzle of sticky balsamic vinegar. Guests are often amazed at how perfectly poached the eggs are, too. It’s all about the Devon fresh farm eggs. The breakfast menu has many other veggie breakfasts, like the yummy American pancakes or Vegan Heaven.
There’s a healthy choice of berry compots, Kefir drinks, and fresh fruits. We cater for all dietary requirements, such as gluten-free, soya and oat milks.
Gym & Wellness Centre
We’re both pretty active people. We love to keep fit and healthy. This year, we opened our new gym, which is a perfectly sized space for a quick morning workout.
The gym has a cardio section with a Peloton treadmill. Jump on the running machine, or take a brisk walk to get the heart pumping. We’ve also got a Peloton spin bike, so you can get your full fitness fix for the day!
Another section of the gym is for strength and HIT lovers. We have a multi-gym that has cables for chest, arm and back exercises. If it’s kettlebell swings or free weight training you like. We have weights ranging from 4kg to 25kg. A 7ft bench bar with heavy weights to suit all levels of fitness.
We like to support Mental Health, as we all need to look after ourselves. You’ll find many self-help books that you can read during your stay here, too.
Our B&B is open from Easter until the end of September. We are on seasonally, so closed in the winter months. Now taking bookings for the 2023 season. We hope to see you one day soon ❤️
